US Department of Transportation Visits Safety21

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Transportation joined researchers from Safety21 at Mill19 to discuss current and future projects, as well as review future events and issues related to promoting research, development, and deployment of transportation technology, especially concerning autonomous vehicles.  Representatives included:

  • Dr. Firas Ibrahim, Office of Research, Development and Technology Director;
  • Thomas SaadSenior Advisor, Special Programs and Projects; and 
  • Caesar Singh, Director, University Grants Program 

The U.S. Department of Transportation representatives then met with Carnegie Mellon University Vice-President of Research Theresa Mayer and College of Engineering Dean Bill Sanders to discuss ways to accomplish the U.S. DoT 2022-2026 strategic plan and the future of Transportation – focused on transforming the U.S. transportation system through safety, economic growth and competitiveness, equity, climate and sustainability, transformation and organizational excellence.
